The By-Laws Written by the Equestrian Team to satisfy the requirement of being a student club,
and to outline operating procedures for the team.

Article I. Name

College Of Southern Idaho Equestrian Team

Article II. Purpose

The purpose of the CSI Equestrian Team shall be to enhance and keep alive the athletics and sportsmanship in the I H S A (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) national organization.  Also, the promotion of activities dealing with horses.

Article III. Membership

 Section I.

           Members of the CSI Equestrian Team will consist of members who show in the IHSA “Showing”, and those who do not “Non-Showing.”

 Section II.

Members in the CSI Equestrian Team shall be open to any student at CSI who maintains good standing with the College, accumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above, a full time student, and enrolled in the Equestrian Team Class and practice.

A. Meetings

1. Each non-riding meeting will be on the first and third Monday at 7:00 p.m. providing schedule conflict does not exist.           

2. Have no more than 3 unexcused absences, per semester.  An excused absence shall consist of one of the following: Class, Job, Illness, Family
Emergency.  All others shall be referred to the Advisory board for approval or denial.

3. Notify a student board member of pending absence.

4.Each member is entitled to vote on all matters.  The voting procedures shall be governed by Robert’s Rule of Order.

B. Practices

1. Practices will be on Tues. and Thurs. From 4-6.

2. Students must contact Coach, via answering machine, message, or note 2 hrs prior to practice if he/she can not attend.

3. Practices are under coach’s direction and not for horse training purposes.

C. Sponsors

1. Each Equestrian Team Member will obtain a $100.00 sponsor.

D. Expenses

       1.Each student must pay IHSA a $20.00, single riding discipline, or $30.00, both riding disciplines.

2. Each student will pay for trip expenses to include: food, entertainment, and hotel. Cost of entries and transportation will be covered by CSI (Depending upon budget).

E. Requirements

     1. Western Riders must supply the following:

a. Western Saddle

b. Bridle(complete)

c. Saddle Pad

d. Halter/Lead

e. Horse - suitable for learning equitation.

f. Show attire - Felt hat, equitation chaps, shirt, pants, boots, and belt.

     2. English Riders must supply the following:

a. English saddle

b. Bridle(complete)

c. Saddle pad

d. Halter/Lead

e. Horse - suitable for equitation purposes.

f. Show attire - Helmet w/harness, shirt, jacket, pants, boots,

     3. Riding Helmet required during English and recommended for Western.

Section III. Parliamentary Authority

Meetings will be conducted to the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order.  It will be parliamentary authority which will resolve questions about by-laws and meeting procedures.

Section IV. Amendments of the By -Laws

These by-laws may be amended by a majority vote of members in good standing that are present.

A. The proposed amendment has to be submitted in writing to the student board.

Section V. Rules of Conduct

A. All matters of infractions of the Equestrian Team rules and/or by-laws will be brought to the attention to the student board.  The student board will then give recommendations to the advisory board(consisting of three CSI staff and one student board member).  The Advisory Board will give the result of the decision to the student board who will announce the decision at a team meeting.  All hearings are confidential.

Section VI. Officers

Section I.  Eligibility of Officer’s Position

     A. Full-time Student

     B. Maintain good standing with CSI

     C. Maintain good standing with the team

Section II. Nominating Procedure

   A. An individual may be nominated by dully appointed nominating committee.

     B. Members from the floor.

      Section III.  Election Procedure                                                   

     A. A majority vote from the members present is required to win an election.  If a tie occurs there will be a run-off vote until a candidate is declared a winner.

Section IV. Term of Office
 
A. Each officer shall serve a one year term from the date of election.  The date of election will be at the end of the spring semester for the Student President. Those interested in being Student President need submit an application reviewed by the    advisory board.  Nominees will be voted on by team members.  Other Student Officers will be elected in the following fall semester.

Section V. Duties of Officers

 
A. President - It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings, enforce discipline and uphold the constitution and by-laws.  Decide all questions of order and appoint all committees not otherwise provided for.  The President as a liaison from the coach to the team members.  He/She will be the student representative on the advisory board.

B. Vice President - It shall be the duty of the Vice President to assume all duties of the President in his/her temporary or permanent absence.  He/she oversees all committees and assists other officers if the need arises. Also he/she will be the
Inter-Club representative for the team.

C. Secretary - It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep an accurate record of all team meetings.  Maintain the attendance and the participation records of the team  members.  Furthermore, the Secretary shall keep an updated list of the members that are in good and bad standings.

D. Public Relations - It shall be the duty of the Public Relations to communicate with newspapers, radio stations, etc.  He/she will keep records of photos and develop a scrapbook.  Team Public Relations Officer will report information to the school Advisory and school media.       

E. Treasurer- It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to keep an account of all moneys receive and paid out. Also, the Treasurer will keep an accurate record of the team account balance.


     Section VI. Removal of Office

 A. An officer may be impeached and removed from his/her office by at least a 3 /4 vote of the voting members, provided a quorum of at least 2/3 of the voting members are present.                                                                                                        

B.  Final deciding vote will be given to the Advisory Board concerning removal of officer. 

C. If an officer receives below a 2.0 accumulative GPA, he/she must submit his/ her resignation to the team.
